Our very own pediatric physical therapist, Lisa Mangino, PT, DPT, PCS, C/NDT, PRC presented her unique approach to treating children at the annual Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI) meeting of PRI certified physical therapists and athletic trainers on April 18th 2015. She discussed how children tend to alter their posture and movement patterns with unbalanced muscle use and an overuse of extension (for example: persistently walking on their toes). She educated the adult therapists about primitive reflexes and what happens if these are inappropriately retained, postural reflexes, the field of Sensory Integration, and the use of PRI techniques with children, specifically focusing on fun ways to decrease the overuse of extension. This highly specialized approach used to treat movement dysfunction in children is profoundly effective and transformative.
