Susan Henning, Jean Masse, and Lisa Mangino have completed their advanced training in managing older adults with scoliosis. These therapists have already completed intensive training and certification (C1) in managing Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) using Schroth based Methods, from the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS).
The high level (C2) Schroth based certification program qualifies therapists to safely work with older adults with pain, after spinal surgery including hardware fixation, and also to manage group exercise training.
We have noticed a great need for specialized treatment in older adults with spinal pain, to address not only the asymmetry of scoliosis in a targeted way, but also to safely consider the effects of aging on the scoliotic spine, surgical fixation implications, curvature progressions, and activity modifications to help older adults better manage their pain and keep their functional mobility.
