Susan Henning PT, PRC to Present on Scoliosis at National Symposium

April 9, 2014 by Susan Henning

DSC_0087

Our own Susan Henning PT, PRC has been doing groundbreaking work towards improving the lives of people with scoliosis.  Susan combines the Postural Restoration approach and Schroth based principles of spinal correction.  She has had dramatic clinical results and has been asked to share her unique approach with other experts and practitioners in the field of rehabilitation and posture.  She will be one of six expert speakers to present on the subject of “Gas and Gravity” and the strong influences these have on our posture.  We are incredibly fortunate, at Advance Physical Therapy, to have Susan as a mentor and peer.  Below is a description of the symposium.

6th Annual Interdisciplinary Integration Symposium: Gas & Gravity

Our 6th Annual Interdisciplinary Integration course brings together six highly regarded professionals to share their expertise on the subjects of pulmonary gas exchange and gravitational influences affecting human form and function.  This symposium will include interactive discussion on topics that reduce undesirable neuromuscular patterns of activity.   These topics will include how our body has adapted to or contends with the low ratio of carbon dioxide production to alveolar ventilation (hyperventilation) and the speed of falling towards the earth’s surface at an acceleration rate of 9.8 meters per second squared (Earth’s gravity).  Each speaker will reflect on the positive and negative influences of gas and gravity, compensatory strategies used to contend with improper gas ratios and anti-gravitational processes, and recommendations to improve pulmonary and ventilation gas ratios, as well as, centered anti-gravity function; based on their personal or professional experience or research

About Susan Henning

Susan graduated from NYU in 1986 with a BA in Physical Therapy. She worked in major medical centers first in New York City, later in San Francisco, CA. Her early interest was in neurological rehabilitation. Due to a longstanding interest in dance and movement she began studies in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in the early 90’s. She pursued training in manual physical therapy approaches including Paris, Maitland, Mulligan and Jackson. Susan is among only a handful of physical therapists in the US with advanced certifications in both the Schroth Method and Postural Restoration for non-surgical treatment of scoliosis.
