Parents can help their young ballet dancers prevent injury with Physical Therapy

March 7, 2012 by Lisa Mangino

Lisa Howell(B.Phty) is a physical therapist from Sidney Australia who has developed The Perfect Pointe Book.  This is a great guide and program to be used with young dancers.   Lisa advocates that dancers use a specialized dance physical therapist and their dance teacher to help them develop strong muscles and bones and correct dance form.  Advance Physical Therapy’s Matthew Harwood( PT, DPT, OCS) uses Lisa’s program to assess a female dancer’s ability to be en pointe safely.  Her recommendations also apply to male dancer’s and non-classical ballet dancers who notice weakness in the ankles and feet.

Lisa Howell provides a free Perfect Pointe Parent’s Manual, this is a must read for all parents whose child is ambitious and pursuing dance, here is a link to receive your copy:   http://www.theperfectpointebook.com/TheParentsManual/
